Sea of Cortez Ayurveda Retreat

SEA OF CORTEZ AYURVEDA RETREAT

cabo pulmo, Mexico

WEDnesday October 30 - SUNday November 3

We’re going to beautiful Baja, Mexico, where the toasty desert is juxtaposed with an unexpectedly brilliant turquoise sea.

Fall here typically brings warm waters, so you can roll out of your luxury bungalow bed each morning and roll right on into the calm sea for an inspired start to the day, or take a rejuvenating dip in between yoga class, delicious Ayurvedic meals, and Ayurvedic experiences.

My Ayurveda retreats are all about reviving your body and spirit and above all, connecting with other amazing humans.

The overall retreat theme has jokingly yet fittingly become ‘juicy joy’; as you’ll boost your ojas (what we call your glow, your immunity, and inner juiciness) and experience Ayurveda in its easygoing, joyful form.

ON THIS BEACHY SEA OF CORTEZ RETREAT, JUICY JOY MEANS…

Calm sea dips and swims

Nourishing Cailfornia-Mexican inspired Ayurvedic meals

Watching the sun rise over the sea with a warm mug of tea

Ayurvedic wisdom talks and workshops

India style all-levels yoga classes

Long walks on empty beaches

Desert sky stargazing

Snorkeling in the Marine Preserve with your new friends

Lounging in hammocks

Relaxing in the hot tub

Everything you need plus time for your dinacharya (Ayurvedic self care practices)

“I am struggling to find the right words to describe the depth of my experience. I think it’s about the combination: people, location, being disconnected from the world. All of this combined created a safe space for my thoughts and worries to surface and then fall away. I finally had space to just be. And all the while I was feeling nourished on every level: body, soul and mind. And most importantly, I am keeping this special feeling even after I returned and immersed myself in daily life.”

Natasha Yaroshenko

The Location

Our home for this retreat is the tiny diving village of cabo pulmo.

It’s a marine preserve and has so much sea wildlife that it’s been deemed a Unesco World Heritage Site.

The water is calm, clean, clear, great for swimming, and famous for snorkeling. And, Cabo Pulmo is also known to be very safe.

We’ll be staying at the beautiful Baja Serenity which is right on the beach with direct beach access.

You’ll fly into Los Cabos / SJD (just a 2.5 hour flight from LA and Houston and 3 hours from SF) and then head north in one of our shared vans to the Sea of Cortez side of the Baja peninsula.

“I knew signing up for this retreat it would be life changing, but I didn't realize just how life changing it would be until fully immersing myself into the retreat. Julie is an exceptional teacher, with a truly Divine spirit. I look so different from 4 days of this experience. I feel incredibly different, so connected, and relaxed. My skin is glowing, my eyes are clearer, I am so nourished. I feel transformed on a cellular level.”

The Rooms

YOUR RETREAT HOME WILL BE A LUXURY BEACH BUNGALOW with a comfy bed, a private bathroom with a rain shower and hot water, high quality linens and towels, and tasteful design.

All rooms are fully enclosed (no bugs!) and have air conditioning just in case it gets toasty during the day.

You’ll fall asleep to the sound of gentle waves lapping on the seashore.

Opt for a private room or travel with a friend, partner or your mom! Or, come solo and I’ll pair you with a roommate.

Men and women are welcome.

WHALE WATCHER VILLA for two

This stand-alone villa has expansive views of the Sea of Cortez from its large living room and dining room area with sliding glass doors on three sides for the best of indoor/outdoor living.

It features a spacious separate bedroom, an ensuite bathroom, and a private outdoor area with an outdoor shower with sea views (!). It’s located as close to the water as it gets and next to the dining palapa.

Book this room with a friend or partner and either share the king size bed or we’ll add a rollaway queen size bed as well.

Scroll down for a video tour of the rooms.

PRIVATE and shared rooms

Choose between a private room just for you or a shared room for two. Bring a friend or partner, or I’ll pair you with a roommate. Most rooms feature two queen size beds and a few have kings.

All rooms are lovely, have a private bathroom, and are interspersed with cozy outdoor sitting areas.

“This was my second Mexican retreat with Julie…she always attracts a warm and thoughtful group who quickly feel like friends (if that’s something you’re interested in; Julie makes space for everyone to keep to themselves, also). Julie is truly a rare and perfect blend of grace, sunshine, wisdom, and humor, and I look forward to our next retreat with her. Also – she always finds beautiful retreat venues / places which I never would find on my own.”

The Food

ENJOY CALIFORNIA-MEXICAN INSPIRED AYURVEDIC MEALS MADE BY AYURVEDIC CHEFS.

You’ll be fed by Cecilia and Rosi of Masala Malinalco who are coming all the way from Mexico City to nourish our group!

In honor of our location, our fun Ayurvedic menu is inspired by both Mexican and Californian cuisine. All food will be as fresh as it gets, made from scratch, and prepared with love.

“This retreat was honestly everything that I needed to reset & reconnect with myself & my body. Julie is so knowledgeable & her approach to ayurveda is so gentle. She truly has a gift for facilitating beautiful experiences & attracting the loveliest souls into her orbit. I will never forget this experience & the connections that I’ve made.”

Whether you’ve been my client or student for years, a few months, or if we’ve never met and even if you don’t have any experience with Ayurveda, I know you’ll get so much from this experience.

This retreat is for you if…

  • You could use a dose of nature and the beach

  • You need down time, rejuvenation, and vacation

  • You align with Ayurveda and look forward to experiencing it fully

  • Ayurveda is new to you and you’re open to seeing what it can do for you

  • Your self care feels lackluster and needs some inspiration

  • You find your approach to Ayurveda is strict and in need of softening

  • You feel alone in your wellness journey

  • You’re in need of connection with yourself

  • You’re in need of positive connections with others

You’ll have space both for activity and relaxation, and alone time and connection.

“The retreat with Julie was exceptional! Everyday detail was well thought out and each day brought a new experience. Julie created a loving and warm atmosphere of community. The chance to be with like-minded women was fabulous. There was such an expanse of emotion and support at all levels.”

Meet Your Host

This is the 7th retreat that I’m hosting here in Mexico! I’ve been living here for 3.5 years and had made about 40 trips here before that. I love this country, and I’m thrilled you’re coming here to visit. There is something so energetically special about this land. You can feel an ancient and even India-like depth, and at the same time a lovely laid-back vibe and cultural warmth that lets you slow down and feel like a human again.

One of the main reasons I moved here was to bring more joy into my life. I’m happy to say I found it, and now my goal is to spread it to my clients and students! We can be spiritual, we can be dedicated to ancient practices, we can eat our healthy food and sleep early, and still, we can and should be joyful. It’s even noted as one of the main aims of a healthy and happy human life in Vedic tradition! Expect to tap into some of that joy as well as wellbeing on this retreat.

I’ve been intensively studying Ayurveda for 11 years now and am a Doctor of Ayurveda. I’ve been helping clients through Ayurveda for 9+ years, and started teaching yoga that I learned in India 14 years ago. India is somewhere I visit often, and I’m dedicated to sharing this ancient wisdom with you so that you too can find health, happiness, longevity, and joy. See you in Mexico.

“This is the 3rd retreat I have taken with Julie – each one has restored my soul in ways I couldn’t have imagined prior to the retreat. I always depart the retreats revitalized and refreshed. It’s the self care I need for me – and I’m looking forward to the next one.”

The Details : Please Read!

  • You will fly into SJD (San José del Cabo International Airport).

From there, you will take one of our shared vans to the retreat center, which is part of the retreat package.

The ride between the airport and the retreat center is about 1.5 hours.

There will be 2 options for shared vans on arrival and departure day. While final times will be adjusted once I have everyone’s flight information, I currently anticipate based on past experience that they will be more or less at 12:30pm and 2:30pm on arrival day (Wednesday October 30), and 10am and 11:30am on departure day (Sunday November 3).

Look for a flight that arrives on October 30 between 11:30am and 2pm, and a departure flight on November 3 between 1:30PM and 3pm to take advantage of the shared vans.

**In case your flight time is outside of these windows, we can arrange a private taxi for you. It will be your responsibility to cover this cost of 2500 Mexican pesos each way.**

I am happy to help you look for flights—just email me!

  • All bookings will be processed through WeTravel. A $600 nonrefundable deposit is required to book.

You can pay the remainder in full or with a payment plan. Final payment is due September 15, 2024.

All deposits are 100% non-refundable. You may cancel your reservation up to August 1 and receive a full refund of the amount paid, minus the $600 deposit. There will be no refunds thereafter for any reason. I highly recommend purchasing travel insurance for your personal security.

While I try to be as compassionate as I can in my cancellation policy, as a retreat leader I have to protect the financial and time investments that I make to create these experiences and so, the deposit and cancellation policy are black and white.

Hence, I encourage you to book with the full intention of attending, and highly recommend purchasing a cancel-for-any-reason travel insurance policy to cover your costs in case you can’t make it.

In the event that the retreat has to be canceled due to a force majeure, I will reschedule the retreat and your payments will be applied toward the new retreat date.

  • I know that you’ll book this retreat with the intention of attending, but the unexpected does happen, which is why I HIGHLY recommend purchasing international travel/medical insurance for you trip, flight cancellation and interruption, emergency medical expenses, and emergency evacuation expenses.

The most comprehensive insurance is generally a Cancel for Any Reason policy, which needs to be purchased within a few days of your trip purchase. Insuremytrip.com has several options but please be sure to read cancellation policies carefully before purchasing.

  • Americans do not need a visa for Mexico—just a passport with at least 6 months validity at the time of travel. Please check the requirements for your country.

“Thank you Julie for hosting another beautiful retreat, for sharing your incredible knowledge, and for bringing together such a wonderful group of people. So much fun, and so enlightening, as always. I left feeling so much lighter.”
